Notices blog
Hi all,
We have been considering at EMCC the question of re-opening for prayer. It would not be possible right now to open for group prayer, we could only open the building for you to sit and pray alone. We firmly believe that the God of all, is everywhere and does not need us to be in special places to worship him or speak with him. You can speak with our creator anywhere including your own home.

Hi all,
In this week's service we will be talking about obedience and doing no harm. After I recorded the service I read a little story that I thought was worth sharing with you. If you follow us on Facebook then you have already seen it. The story is based on a photograph with a very, very long queue. Why is the queue there? Some parents made a plea to their local community, they asked for help as their 5 year old was dying. The child needed a donor and they wanted people to step forward to be swabbed to see if they are a match. The community answered the call, 5,000 people lined up to be tested, to see if they could help. It emphasizes the point that built into each of us is the desire to help our community, to protect one another, and especially our youngest and most vulnerable. This inherent, instinctive function is common to us and God, we are built in his image.
The children have prepared another little clip for you this morning, that I hope makes you smile. Josh plays the part of the telex machine.

Hi all,
This week marks a very unusual fairwell service for our friend and minister Rev Simon Leigh. Simon has been with us since 2008 as superintendent and in more recent years as minister at Elburton. I am sure you will all have your own memories of the skills and talents Simon has brought to our fellowship. On behalf of us all, Simon, thank you for sharing the journey with us and preparing us for the future. Your ministry has been a welcome and valued part of EMC life for many years and you will be missed.
With our love

Hi all,
How has your week been? Hope it has been a good one, the weather has certainly cooled the last few days and the rain has been good for the new grass seed I am trying to grow. Fingers crossed on that. It's been a busy week of work this week and we haven't been out for our usual daily exercise over the past few days as a result. That made today's trip even more enjoyable, despite the drizzle. I hope like me you are looking forward to Tristan's service tomorrow morning, you will find it on our website as soon as it is uploaded.
I found the prayer time on Wednesday really useful and even managed to get the children involved briefly. I hope you found the concept useful as well. I would love to hear if you would like to join together again this Wednesday at 7, or if you'd rather we joined on Zoom, or we provided a video or something else. Your thoughts on that would be very welcome, for now lets aim for 7 and replicate last week. More details can be found on the Prayer page on our website. http://www.elburtonmethodist.org.uk/Prayer This page also contains some ideas to help you pray at home.
Simon has drawn our attention to a prayer event taking place on Monday the 8th of June at 13:00. Over one Billion Roman Catholics will be joining in one minute of prayer and I would encourage you to join in that same event. Prayer is a powerful gift. God has given us a great capacity, the capacity to talk directly to him anywhere and anytime we want, more over we can hear his voice. There are lots of stories of the power of prayer in action. If you have one do share it with me and I will share it on our website.
We hope you will have a blessed and happy week, God bless you and fill you with his spirit of pure love.

Courier
AH YES, I REMEMBER IT WELL!
Hello, everyone, hope you are all well and coping fairly well with the present situation. A small
“Courier” will reach you soon, but we are looking to having a regular issue when things get more
normal. Before “lockdown” we were looking to have a feature for VE Day, but events overtook us.
We did though, have an interview with our two veterans, Ivor and Bill which were in the last
publication. We cannot let such an important anniversary pass without some sort of recognition. It is
therefore intended to go ahead with our original plan and we need your help. Please think about
letting us know these three things. On the day it was announced that the war was over 1) where you
were 2) what you were doing there 3) how you were told the news. There may not be many of you
who remember, but we would all love to hear your experiences of that special day. If you need help
with writing it we can arrange that. Please send, or contact Liz or myself with your contributions.
Keep safe, keep healthy, keep smiling and look forward to when we can be together again.

Re-opening the Building
Simon and the stewards have been in discussion around the question of re-opening our building for worship. Many of us are longing for the day when we will be able to do so, but equally appreciate the need for caution at these times. EMCC has decided that we do not think opening our building makes sense until September, at the earliest. Clearly we will continue to seek advice from government and the connexion.
This will doubtless be disappointing for many, but the decision is based on the need to protect all of those in our Church and community. I would emphasize our Church is not closed. In fact, our Church is fully active, but in new ways. We are still the Church of Christ, just a little dispersed.
Please do let me know if you know of others who would like to receive these notices or our on-line services. Equally please let us know also if folks are not receiving Simon’s weekly notes.
For now our building remains closed, except for the weekly maintenance visit and when it re-opens new procedures and processes will doubtless be needed.

Getting Help
Rachel has shared with me the details of how you can get help from the NHS responders if you need to do so, here are the details...
NHS Responders can be contacted for shopping, collection of medicines and driving to hospital appointments. They can be contacted between 8am and 8pm on 08081963646 Find out more on Portal for NHS Volunteer Responders | Royal Voluntary Service
Thy Kingdom Come
In this week's service we made us of some of the Thy Kingdom Come resources. TKC suggests 5 activities Churches can do to pray. One of them is agreeing a time when we will all pray for a few minutes and optionally follow the guidance in the TKC document. If you think it's a good idea we could start one week day evening next week perhaps? Thoughts welcome.
Here is the website.
Coffee Mornings
Also do remember we have our coffee morning hosted by Denise, every Saturday at 10:30 am. So there is still lots going on at EMCC.

Hi all,
This week we are looking at Genesis in our service we will be talking about the surprising, amazing love of God that both understand and forgives us and how we have good cause to trust him. You can find this week's service on our website here http://www.elburtonmethodist.org.uk/video.
We have had another busy week at home. Josh has gotten into the swing of his school work, he now starts early to get it over and done with. We have also found a store of old Formula 1 races to watch, we are making our way through them. Beth is less keen on her school work but she does get it done, she is currently having her face painted by Helen.
As you may know both Tristan and I are going through our LP training. Something that would be really helpful would be if I can ask some of you to complete feedback for is each week. We only need one person each week so please don't feel you have to do this every time. To make it as easy as possible I have created a web page with the feedback form. You don't need to send the actual form in, simply answering the questions in an email would be great. If you fancy doing that for a previous week, feel free :-)
http://www.elburtonmethodist.org.uk/feedback
We are also continuing our weekly prayer for each other, the community and the world. You can join us in your own home 7pm to 715 pm each Wednesday. See here for more details. http://www.elburtonmethodist.org.uk/prayer
So onto another week, the lockdown is easing and although this may not be the end of the pandemic it might be that we have reached the end of the beginning, sorry I couldn't resist the quotation.
At the risk of appearing to be stuck, I want to remind end by reminding you we have a God who loves us, and who as the creator is in command of everything, including yesterday, today and tomorrow. May you come to know his love and may he bless you this week.
With our love
Jon, Helen, Josh and Beth xx

Hi all,
Hope you are having a great week and enjoying the sun outside our windows. Strange times but the beauty of God’s creation is in full bloom all around us. If you have things from your week you’d like to share with the Church or you’d like us to pray for as a group do let me know.
We have had another busy week, although I did get some leave which has been great. We have finished our 300 foot cable run, and now have a CCTV system at fort Blackstone. Well it was something fun to occupy us all, even Beth has been helping with the install up the ladder.
I did here back from a few of you who are keen to pray together at the same time each week. I wondered if you’d like to give that a try this week. If we perhaps aim for 7pm and pray for 15 minutes. During this time we will lift up the church, the world and our friends and relations at this most difficult of times. Lets end those 15 minutes with the Lord’s prayer together. There is no pressure to join in but if you’d like to please do so and if you’d like to let me know you are taking part that would be wonderful.
Right, now to the remainder of our notices….

The Lyrics to this week’s hymns can be found below…
Lord, the light of your love is shining
In the midst of the darkness, shining
Jesus, Light of the world, shine upon us
Set us free by the truth you now bring us
Shine on me, shine on me
Shine, Jesus, shine, fill this land with the Father's glory
Blaze, Spirit, blaze, set our hearts on fire
Flow, river, flow, flood the nations with grace and mercy
Send forth your word, Lord, and let there be light
Lord, I come to your awesome presence
From the shadows into your radiance
By the blood I may enter your brightness
Search me, try me, consume all my darkness
Shine on me, shine on me
As we gaze on your kingly brightness
So our faces display your likeness
Ever changing from glory to glory
Mirrored here may our lives tell your story
Shine on me, shine on me
This is the day, this is the day
That the Lord has made, what the Lord has made
We will rejoice, we will rejoice
And be glad in it, and be glad in it
This is the day that the Lord has made
We will rejoice and be glad in it
This is the day, this is the day
That the Lord has made.
This is the day, this is the day
When He rose again, when He rose again
We will rejoice, we will rejoice
And be glad in it, and be glad in it
This is the day when He rose again
We will rejoice and be glad in it
This is the day, this is the day
When He rose again.
This is the day, this is the day
When the Spirit came, when the Spirit came
We will rejoice, we will rejoice
And be glad in it, and be glad in it
This is the day when the Spirit came
We will rejoice and be glad in it
This is the day, this is the day
When the Spirit came
Strength will rise as we wait upon the Lord
We will wait upon the Lord, we will wait upon the Lord
Strength will rise as we wait upon the Lord
We will wait upon the Lord, we will wait upon the Lord
Our God, You reign forever
Our hope, our Strong Deliverer
You are the everlasting God
The everlasting God
You do not faint
You won't grow weary
