Notices blog

Hi all,

Weather continues to be good which makes the view from our window that little bit better. We have been busy today celebrating Josh's 10th birthday, we can't really understand where those years have gone, none the less here we are. He has had a great day playing on his xbox with his new steering wheel, he's developed an interest in cars and formula 1. We have a lot of spreadsheets around the house know comparing various car related facts. So all good fun. Hope you are all well and enjoy this week's service which is being organised by Tristan.

I have only received one extra notice this week, which comes from Paul at Central Hall. They are having also hosting a service on Sunday mornings and invite us to attend. So you now have a lot of choice on a Sunday and of course as these services are recorded you can attend them all. To find central hall you will need to pop onto Facebook and search for Plymouth Methodist Central Hall. You can also find a service from Ridgeway in the same way each week.

Have a blessed, and God filled week.

Jon, Helen, Josh and Beth xx

Thy Kingdom Come

In this week's service we made us of some of the Thy Kingdom Come resources. TKC suggests 5 activities Churches can do to pray. One of them is agreeing a time when we will all pray for a few minutes and optionally follow the guidance in the TKC document. If you think it's a good idea we could start one week day evening next week perhaps? Thoughts welcome.

Hi all,

Good morning, it looks like another beautiful morning out there, and I thought, while the house was still quiet (children are asleep) I would compose and send this weeks notices. I don't have a great deal to share with you this week. Whilst the children and I where busy jump starting our little car yesterday morning, Helen joined in the virtual coffee morning from the driving seat of the other car. It sounds like they all had a lot of fun, so if you haven't been attending do drop in on next weeks. If you don't have the contact details let me know and I will share.

I hope you are finding in these quiet moments time for reflection and practicing that art, that I have not mastered of sitting in a state of prayer. Have to say our house is seldom peaceful :-) I know many of you will be reading the news and be concerned about developments at home, and indeed overseas. Even this will pass, and believe it or not there are many signs of hope in the chaos, from vaccine trials, community spirit, sacrifice, a re-generating planet to slowly reducing case loads and reducing fatalities. There are signs this might be the end of the beginning (yes I know I just badly quoted Churchill, sorry!) The point is it's really easy to focus on the negatives and let them absorb us, the trick is to find each and every positive and dwell more on those.

Right, enough waffle have a week filled with peace and above all stay home, and stay safe!!

God bless you at this time!

Remember the God of the universe is in command, even of this!

Jon

 A sad farewell

As many of you will know we have had to say a distant but none the less love filled farewell to Mary this week. It's reassuring to know that Simon was able to conduct the funeral even if it was a reduced gathering of close family only. The fact of it seems all the sadder for us not being able to mourn with her family. However, I also know they are aware of just how much love and compassion has poured out to them from the cards and messages they have received. We as a Church may not have been physically there but we have been present with them at this time in spirit.

Prayer

I wonder if at this time I could ask you to join me in praying for those in care homes, particularly around Plymouth. I know of a number of people in homes, as do you, some of you read this, so hello to you, our love to you ! One I know of, my former Sunday school teacher, is in a home where the infection is now present. Prayers for him and all those affected would be welcome today.

Messy Church

Julia has asked me to share the item below for all those in Messy Church.....

Hi 'Messy' friends. I hope this message finds everybody well and staying Safe. Hopefully also taking advantage of this lovely weather.
Have recently done a couple of craft projects for the children to complete at home over Easter. I thought it might be nice as a Team, to see if anyone else can come up with a craft, for the children to again complete at home. i.e. Something we can display in the Church front window, complete with items required etc and instructions for completetion or similar.

If it will help, I can pick this up from your doorstep as I drop off or pick  Karl from his work, Mon - Fri, and then as previously mentioned, display this in the Church window.

I would also like, as a Team, to raise some money for the NHS. I have recently made 100 Rainow🌈 & Cross ✝️ bracelets to sell for £1 each. The bracelets are now pre-packaged in re-sealable bags, ready to sell. They can be dropped through a letter box and then payment preferably £1 coin can received. Payment(s) can be left on front steps or an alternative if previously discussed and agreed.
If anybody can help me with this, or has any other ideas, please get in touch.
If this proves to be popular, I am willing to make more. I'm hoping to raise £150.00 plus.

Hi all,

Good evening to you, a little weather blip this week but on the whole pretty good going and our new grass is shooting up, so that's good! There are also positive things in the UK news this week which is reassuring. The R number continues to drop and is at a level where the virus is dying and not expanding. I think it's really very important to find all the positives at these times and there are many. Have to say I am loving working from home !!

Some of you may share my love for a good graph and there are so many stats to ingest at the moment. They have been full of alarming numbers but in the past 3 weeks there has been a noticeable turn of events and things moving in a much better direction. Long may this continues across the world.

I am very conscious there are many folks who do not have access to the internet to share in this and our other media. If you have someone nearby please feel free to print and drop in this sheet. Equally whilst I am a terribly conversationalist I am always willing to listen and if you get me on the right geeky subject like bunkers, computers, locks, Vulcan bombers .....I could go on, well on those  I will talk for days, and am happy to call anyone who needs a chat.

Right I waffled again this week, sorry! lets get onto the main stuff shall we ?

God bless you at this time!

Remember the God of the universe is in command, even of this!

Jon

News from Jean Davies

" I had sad news on Saturday 25th April. Harvey an old dog that I have been sponsoring at the Dogs' Trust had to be put to sleep. He had many serious health issues and had wonderful treatment from the staff at the trust. I shall miss his cards and letters (not written, I assume by him) There is good news though as another dog has been offered to me, called Paulo. He is a black Labrador, just right, as we have had a black Labrador in our family whom we loved very much. Paulo is three years old, but is not suitable for re-homing due to previous treatment. His distinguishing feature is a "smiley face"....so sounds just right for me !!!  So amongst the sadness there is always something to be glad about. Keep safe, keep healthy and KEEP SMILING.

Prayer

I can only encourage you are this time to hold each other up in prayer, especially those who are unable to be a part of our electronic community! Prayer is the great secret of Christianity. We are incredibly blessed to have a direct line to God and now is a time to use it :-)

Other items

I have had one other items which I need to incorporate into next week's notices but if you have something good or bad to share with the Church community do let me know.

Lyrics for today's service

Come on and celebrate
His gift of love, we will celebrate
The Son of God who loved us
And gave us life
We'll shout Your praise, O King
You give us joy nothing else can bring
We'll give to You our offering
In celebration praise

Come on and celebrate
Celebrate
Celebrate and sing
Celebrate and sing to the King
Come on and celebrate
Celebrate
Celebrate and sing
Celebrate and sing to the King

Purify my heart
Let me be as gold
And precious silver
Purify my heart
Let me be as gold
Pure gold

Refiner's fire
My heart's one desire
Is to be holy
Set apart for You, Lord
I choose to be holy
Set apart for You, my Master
Ready to do Your will

Purify my heart
Cleanse me from within
And make me holy
Purify my heart
Cleanse me from my sin
Deep within

All I  once held dear, built my life upon,
All this world reveres and wars to own;
All I once thought gain I  have counted loss,
Spent and worthless now compared to this.

CHORUS:
Knowing You, Jesus, knowing You
There is no greater thing.
You're my all, You're the best,
You're my joy, my righteousness,
And I love You Lord.

Now my heart's desire is to know You more,
To be found in You and known as Yours,
To possess by faith what I could not earn
All surpassing gift of righteousness

Oh to know the power of Your risen life,
And to know You in Your sufferings;
To become like You in Your death, my Lord,
So with You to live and never die.
