Notices blog

This week we are doing something a bit different for our service. The recording of the service will be available on-line in the usual way BUT we will also be providing a live stream at 1030 on Facebook. This will be predominantly the same content so please don't watch both. We haven't tried this before so this will be a little experiment. As I say you will be able to watch the recording from our website as usual so no one should miss anything. No sermon this week, just four short talks to take us through the themes of the past few months worshipping on-line.

Secondly, our prayers will be slightly different. We will be using the image here to help focus our prayer time. If you are able, print it off and fill it in before we worship OR you can just make a little list based on the headings.

Finally this sunday we will be having an on-line new years party at 11:30 on Zoom. All are welcome to join us and details are in these notices. The Zoom details are redacted from the website copy of this sheet so if you don't get this by e-mail just drop me a message and I will share them. We are hoping the 'party' will be an opportunity for a chat and a catch-up. Pass the parcel is hard to do by Zoom so come with your news and bring your own tea :-)

We really are very much looking forward to seeing you at 11:30 if you can make it!

Well I said last week that schools are returning and even more normality with it. I know our children have loved meeting their friends and getting back to school.
Those who can I will see you at 11:30 sunday for those who can't have a blessed and God filled week.

Remember the God of creation and love is in command, so all is well!
As always With our love
Jon, Helen, Josh and Beth

Hi all

This week Tristan is leading our worship and we are very much looking forward to joining with him. Thank you Tristan for your services!

I would like to use my slot today to talk about next Sunday. Next week we will be doing a few things differently on-line. First of all our service will be a bit of a celebration. We will be celebrating the new Church year. I am hoping there will be a party atmosphere! Next Sunday also marks the first week for our new Minister Rev Andy Chislet-McDonald. A massive welcome to him. I am sure we will get to meet him very soon, but if you are reading this we are all very pleased to meet you. Welcome to EMCC.

The second thing that will be different next week is how we do our prayers. I would like to share with you my terrible drawings with Helen's excellent writing. You will find the photo on the link below and on our website. Now the idea is simple - you can either print this, draw your own, or just write a list. What I'd like to ask you to do this week is note down against each category something you'd like to pray for. There may be more than one thing, and that's fine. Then, next Sunday we will simply pray for those things.
Image is here
Finally we will be holding a post Church new year service party. Well an on-line tea and cake event anyway. Zoom details of the meeting can be found below. So here is the plan. We will virtually hold our service from 10:30 and at 11:30 we will join the Zoom call (details below). We can then have a bit of a catch-up as if we were in the Rank Hall. That's it really!!

We really are very much looking forward to seeing you then!
As to this week, it's a strange one for many parents as after months of having the children no more than 10 metres away they are to return to school. All of our Church children will be in my prayers this week as I am sure they will yours. Lets hope it is a fun, educational, rewarding and safe time for them.
Have a great week folks!!
As always With our love
Jon, Helen, Josh and Beth

Have you ever seen the film Ground Hog Day? Josh and I watched it a few weeks back. Whilst some aspects of life have returned to normal there are still many things that we find ourselves doing differently. For many of us life revolves far more around the home than ever before. The film ground hog day is about a guy who finds himself waking up each and every morning in the same room at the start of the same day. Everyone else lives the day in exactly the same way each iteration. Only our hero can experience it truly differently. He enters bitter and angry and grumpy and initially the repetition makes him even more bitter and angry and grumpy. Over time he learns to embrace the positives of his new found captivity and to grow from it. His transformation is not just one of new skills (he learns the piano and ice sculpting) he is also transformed in the heart. He learns to enjoy the town and love the people. It is then at the close of the film he is set free and choses to stay in this place he has lived 1 day as a 1000.

The passage below reflects some of this.

2 Corinthians 4:16-18. Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day.

In this lockdown you may sometimes feel like you are living the same day over and over, trapped in a small bubble. I love working from home but I realised on Friday I hadn't really left the house all week, wandering from desk to bed and back again becomes so easy when the office is 5 feet away. Although ground hog day can seem very real, we as Christians are called each morning to a renewed start. We are to start each day embracing the refreshing power of God's kingdom, the love that surrounds us. We can wake up each day and know we may be in the same physical place, but we are free in the spirit! We are recreated in his image and we can live a new people.

So if you find yourself with that ground hog feeling just remember you are loved by God and your brothers and sisters in him, you have been recreated in his image, and you can wake each morning to embrace the restoring, refreshing power of his spirit kingdom.

Have a great week folks!!
With our love
Jon, Helen, Josh and Beth

COFFEE MORNINGS

Please remember Denise hosts a coffee morning at 1030 each Saturday on Zoom, please get in touch for zoom details.

Hello again, another week has flown past. We have been having lots of fun in the Carhart household. Beth has been amazing with the hammer, she has attached lots of tongue and groove to battens for our new bath panel. Josh was been busy cutting the wood and drilling holes in the wall for a new towel rail. Very proud Dad - they have done lots of jobs. The painting was possibly the most messy though! (and the most fun?)

Summer is definitely upon us, and it's very hot out there, you may have noticed! This week we are looking in our service at how Jesus came to change the way of the world. He gave us a new way to obtain righteousness (that rightful relationship with God). We no longer need follow the law alone, we can obtain righteousness by simply believing in him. That gift of grace, that gift of free forgiveness and righteousness is open to everyone. Our reading Roman's 10 v5-15 make it clear that this faith based method is available to 100% of the human population.
There is one part of this week's reading we don't talk about and that's v14 and v15. These verses point out the obvious fact that no one can access that gift if no one tells them about it. There is then a challenge for you and I to share this exciting news with the world. That doesn't mean we need to hire an aeroplane and a big banner. Instead we can share that message in our daily encounters, in conversations, in letters and emails and anywhere we meet someone who just doesn't know. They have a right to know how happy they could be if they knew of this gift.

Right, we have a door to paint, and lots of other jobs to do, so time to crack on. We four send you our love and wish you a happy and blessed week!

This Week's service

I mentioned in this week's service a few commentaries I had read that helped me with understanding v6 in particualr. You can find my references here if you should want to read some more for yourslef. https://www.workingpreacher.org/preaching.aspx?commentary_id=959 https://www.biblestudytools.com/commentaries/gills-exposition-of-the-bible/romans-10-6.html

So the Carharts have had a week off work together this week, our first since February, which has been fantastic. Despite the ocassional rain it's lovely to be able to enjoy some peace at home, even if we are missing our usual summer holiday and activities. I realise I have little to report today except to draw your attention to the message from the stewards concerning opening the building, which you can find below.
Time is sometimes too tight to involve others in readings but if you would be interested in taking part in one of our on-line services do let me know.
Some of you have been keeping me up to date on your own weeks activities and this has been great to read, do keep it up. If you have something you would like me to share here, just say.
I'm going to finish by quoting Billy Graham this week "I've read the last page of the Bible. It's all going to turn out all right." I think he has a point, I feel a great assurance in the knowledge that God is love, he is just and righteous and its this loving, righteous God that has read, written and sealed the last page of the Bible and indeed eternity. Yes I know eternity cant have a last page but you know what I mean :-)

Right I think thats all for this week, hopefully there will be more to share next week.
